William (Bill) Christie MBE
Bill is non-executive Chairman of Mylnefield Lipid Analysis.
He has published several books on aspects of Lipid analysis and received the Dutton Award of the American Oil Chemists’ Society for his work in this area. In the New Year’s Honours List in 2000, Bill was awarded an MBE for “Services to the Scottish Crop Research Institute”.
Most recently Bill has set up a new website, the LipidHome containing a wealth of information on lipids, their chemistry, biochemistry and analysis.
Bill will present:
- separation of lipid classes
- fatty acids
- molecular species and positional analysis
Peter founded his independent technical consultancy company Cobden Research Ltd. in 2013 to allow him to make his expertise in speciality oils such as fish oil, evening primrose oil and borage oil available to a wider audience of nutritional, healthfood and pharmaceutical companies.
He has a wealth of experience in the field of nutritional supplements, in particular, the omega-3 and omega-6 oils.
Peter is co-editor of Lipid Technology and ISSFAL Secretary.
Peter will present:
Commodity oils and oilseeds – markets and processing
Speciality oils with emphasis on omega-3 and omega-6 oils
Mylnefield Lipid Analysis is working in collaboration with Professor Terry K. Smith, Principle Investigator of the TKS Group at St Andrews University.
Terry is an internationally recognised expert in the area of lipidomics and in particular its applications in parasitology and other pathogens.
Terry is interested in talking to organisations in collaborative projects in the area of targeting lipid and fatty acid metabolism for drug discovery.
Terry will present:
Lipidomics – methodology & applications
Charlie was involved with Frank Gunstone in the early years of Lipid Analysis in St Andrews and in the transfer of the unit to the Mylnefield site.
His publications on lipids include NMR spectroscopy, isolation and identification of fatty acids and metabolic studies using labelled lipids and most recently in conjunction with Peter Clough, ‘Authentication of Borage Oil’ published in Lipid Technology, October 2014.
Charlie is a consultant to Mylnefield Lipid Analysis.
Charlie will present:
Fatty acid and lipid structure
Fatty acid chemistry
Quantifying fatty acids and quality control
Oils and fats as renewable resources
