Inorganic and Soil Analysis

inorganic1.jpgThis section deals with the Inorganic analysis of a wide range of materials including waters and soil extracts.

Elemental analysis is carried out using one of two Inductively Coupled Plasma – Optical Emisson Spectrometers (ICP-OES) for samples with element concentrations ranging from percentages to ppb. When ultra low level analysis is required (ppb – ppt) or isotopic ratios, the analysis is carried out using the Inductively Coupled Plasma – Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS).

Colourimetric analysis is performed on a Discrete analyser which has the versatility to be able to analyse aqueous samples using almost any recognised colourimetric technique. This machine is currently employed to determine ammonium, soluble reactive phosphorus and total alkalinity content.

inorganic2.jpgTotal Inorganic/Organic Carbon (TIC/TOC) and Total Nitrogen (TN) content of water samples are analysed on one of two dedicated TOC analysers. One of which (TIC/TOC only) is used for high salt samples.

Two Ion Chromatography (IC) systems are used routinely to analyse the concentrations of major inorganic anions such as Fluoride (F-), Chloride (Cl-), Bromide (Br-), Nitrate (NO3- ) and Sulphate (SO42-).

All of this equipment is automated for high sample throughput.
